What Is This Workshop?
This is the training built for anyone who plays where the bombo needs to command the room: a packed stadium, a union column, a march. Here the approach is different — built for projection in open spaces and for carrying the pulse of a crowd, not a closed circle.

What Is a Class Like?
Our methodology is based on oral transmission, guided practice and respect for tradition. Every class combines technique, musicality, discipline and cultural connection, and is structured in 5 stages: rhythmic warm-up, technical exercises, learning rhythms, applied practice, and closing with reflection.

Who Is It For?
From someone who's never played a bombo with cymbals to someone who already plays and wants to fine-tune their approach specifically for stadium and union settings.
Who Teaches It?
Zalo Battipaglia is a third-generation murguero: his grandfather founded "Los Dandys de Boedo" in 1956, and he grew up in the same neighborhood, in a tenement where the bombo and singing were part of everyday family life. Today he runs Vieja Escuela de Bombistas, a space dedicated to training percussionists of Buenos Aires carnival with the same oral tradition he learned from.
Format and Schedule
- 1-hour classes.
- 4 classes per month, 1 session per week.
- No need to own your own instrument.
- In person in Boedo (Buenos Aires), or remotely via Google Meet (online classes).
Classes are taught in Spanish. This page is available in English so international students can find us — live instruction (in person or online) is conducted in Spanish.
Level
Beginner, intermediate and advanced.
In every one of our workshops, we work to deepen the care, respect and recognition for the bombo with cymbals as part of Buenos Aires carnival — an instrument that represents Argentine popular culture and our identity.
