Repique / Repinique Definition
The repinique, also known as repique, is a cylindrical percussion instrument with a sharp and cutting tone. Its shell can be made from wood or metal and it uses plastic or natural drumheads. Originating in Brazilian samba, the repinique plays an important role marking breaks, rhythmic calls and variations. It is usually played with one or two sticks and is a key instrument in samba ensembles, batucadas and carnival performances.
