What is a Surdo?
The surdo is a large bass drum that produces a deep and powerful low tone. In samba percussion ensembles it provides the fundamental rhythmic pulse that drives the entire group.
Originally from Brazil, the surdo is a core instrument in samba music and is widely used in carnival bands and percussion groups around the world.
