Description
What Is a Surdo?
The surdo is the bass drum of samba: a large drum that carries the pulse that holds the whole percussion section together. Born in Brazil, today it's as much a part of batucadas as it is of murgas and comparsas here.
This 18' wooden surdo, wood rim is the most manageable in the line, ideal for starting out or for frequent travel. Single-head build, open at the bottom, with the wood rim exposed -- a more direct, drier response than a closed surdo. Fitted with imported REMO Encore Hydraulic heads (Ebony and Clear), the same standard professional drummers use.
